Protecting a School, while Preserving a Community
(The construction of the canal of Pont Rondo)
Since 2022, the Pont Rondo canal has posed a serious threat to the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (M.I.C.) in Trou-du-Nord. The deteriorating canal endangered the school itself, and without intervention, one of the school buildings was at real risk of collapse—putting students, staff, and the surrounding community in danger.
Together, the Foundation and the M.I.C. Sisters sought help everywhere. Yet, despite the urgency of the situation, no support came. In the end, the Lamour family stepped forward and took action.
By rebuilding the canal, the Lamour family not only eliminated a major hazard but also restored proper water flow, preventing future damage. To ensure lasting impact, a protective wall was erected along the bridge, and a small park was created across from the canal to discourage dumping and protect the environment.
In principle, this responsibility should have fallen to the public authorities. The danger was real, and the risk extended beyond the school to the entire community. However, limited resources made action impossible. Even more troubling, no sponsor was willing to support a project that offered no recognition or name placement.
Some problems must be solved simply because lives and futures are at stake. A collapsing school would have been a devastating loss for the people of Trou-du-Nord. This project stands as a reminder that true service is not always visible, but it is always essential.
